What with the advent of iPods, Spotify, and Pandora, it's not often I listen to the radio, but when I do, it's the jazz stations I always gravitate towards. The playful sound of blue notes draw me in everytime and I always discover amazing Shazam-worthy artists I probably wouldn't have found otherwise. I don't consider myself a music snob in any way - but I do bypass the typical top 40 to a convergence to the blue notes, bossa nova, neo-soul, funk, and the like. I ultimately just love cute and happy music (just ask anyone I know).
I found this beautiful unique voice on my last road trip and fell in love with her sound. Venissa Santi is a new afro cuban jazz artist who studied jazz in Philly but grew up with Cuban roots. She grew up loving Celia Cruz and Michael Jackson - and after more research I found that her record company is called Sunnyside Records! How awesomely fitting right?! :) Their foundation started with a love for jazz and finding unique sounds - "music is about bouncing and dancing" - and I couldn't agree more.
